Absolutist Theology Vs. Secularism

The 21st century’s cultural evolution is a delicate trapeze act. As the world becomes more familiar with itself, tides of the sea become inert, and the lands pull closer by the connective tissue of fiber optic nerves throughout the global seabed, the world is becoming one global society.

I would argue that today, the people of this world are more connected than they would have been if they existed during Pangea. Now, what happens when worlds collide? The cultural and religious schisms of early America quite literally split the country apart; America’s legacy does not stand alone. Throughout the world, as empires rise and people migrate, collisions occur.

My argument stands on the belief that less conflict occurs in more secular societies. The word secular comes from the Latin saeculum after all, which in early definitions could be an era, later times meant ‘the world’ and now has attained a more Christian meaning for the world outside of Christendom and describes the lifestyle of people that stand against or ignorant to their god.

As I am mostly speaking from a western perspective on western conflicts, this topic is still relevant throughout the world. Some scholars may argue that secularization never actually occurred over the centuries throughout the Christian kingdom. Historians and academics who hold this opinion tend to lean to the belief that intellectualization causes this gradual dismissal of religious canon and secularization of a society.

Nevertheless, through either the pursuit of worldly understanding or policies pushed by leaders and people in a society to soften the biblical blow of unsavory passages in holy books, it has caused Notre Dame to become a tourist hot spot for selfies instead of praying hands. Chimay, Orval, and Rochefort still roll off Wallonie peasants’ tongues but not for their regard to Trappist monks' holy order but for their delicious beer to swash down during Dour.

We cannot claim a native conservative sect or two does not exist outside of modern society in Europe. Still, they are much smaller than even a century ago, and the political and societal grip is about as constricting as a wet noodle. As the devout Catholics shout in conservative papers to…
